From our first spot in Parkhurst which opened 20 years ago, to our more recent home in Illovo, we’ve become a neighbourhood favourite for honest food, legendary coffee, and a space where everyone’s welcome. ‘4th,’ as it is fondly referred to, is also the perfect afternoon spot to unwind and enjoy a ‘cuppa’ with a sneaky sweet treat, a lick of our delectable homemade Italian ice cream, or simply sip on a glass of chilled sav or cold beer to end off your day.

Born in the heart of Johannesburg in 2004, 4th Avenue Coffee Roasters & Café started with a simple idea: make great coffee, and share it with our community.
Frustrated by the lack of high-quality beans, the power couple founders Ian and Ro Ziervogel set out to create their perfect blend — inspired by the legendary Jamaican Blue Mountain, creating a formula that started a legacy of connection, passion and love. After months of testing, “Legendary Pink” was born: a rich, smooth blend of 100% Arabica beans, handpicked from six exceptional origins across Africa and South America. Think cocoa, hazelnut, dark chocolate, and just the right acidity.
Roasted in small batches at our boutique Wynberg roastery on our iconic pink Diedrich machine — with no Robusta and no shortcuts — our coffee is the heart of everything we do.
We've become a local favourite from our cosy Parkhurst café in The Cobbles Centre to our easygoing Illovo spot. But our mission remains the same: fresh food, great coffee, and a space that feels like home.
